Goodyear. No, not the tires? Earlier this year some magnificent demo?s crossed my path. You can close your eyes and add Crystalic to the list. When you?re bored with mediocrity I recommend ?Redemption?. Sell your darkened soul to be free?

This one has got it all! Pure craftwork is what these four Suomies bring. The band started from different other bands in the year of 1998. After having the typical line up struggle, a decent line up was set. Even a short split of Crystalic didn?t stop the musical volcano ready to erupt. Only three songs are enough to behold its magic. ?Blackened image? is highly appealing for fans of musical death metal. The term ?musical? refers to both the technology and the melody plus natural sounding song structures. It?s like Death is back, but a bit more progressive en melodic. Especially the fretless bass lines scream for ?Individual thought patterns? (Death) or ?Focus? (Cynic). It must has been a while I heard a band paying such a tribute to the woofer system. Even the mix is a bit focussed on the bass guitar, you cannot NOT hear it, though the mastering is superbly done. It?s raw yet polished. Henry Virsell?s production exceeds most nowadays metal productions and remember, this is just a promo! Toni Tieaho's intelligent leads are extremely well in accordance with the rhythm section. This is very musical stuff. Just like in the first song, another remarkable thing takes its place in the following song ?Wall of sanity?. Jarno F. Moberg has got an untypical powerful scream. It reminds me of something, but I can?t come up with anything? Perhaps Stanne (Dark Tranquillity) is closest... I don't know... It?s a deep, powerful and aggressive scream. During the last song ?The flame? he tries some clean vocals and it all goes well. This one has got it all!

In the past Crystalic has declined some label offers, but this time I think they can?t escape it. This is of a higher level than what I heard the most of the time hear while listening full albums. It?s time for a certain big German label to release something worthy again? This is their chance! Or perhaps Spinefarm? That?s a Finnish label serving quality. Roadrunner? Metal Blade? Century Media? Karmageddon Media? Listenable? Bwa? Within some weeks we?ll surely hear what label will have signed Crystalic. In the meantime you can download the demo fully at http://www.crystalic.tk/.
