16 APRIL 2005 WOLWęZE LEEUWARDEN HOLLAND

I kind of wondered how I would get passed my birthday this year. Then a few days before that darkened event I got notified some brutal metal-fest would take place in Wolwęze, a student-society in my hometown Leeuwarden, on the night before the fright. Intestterror would play and since I never saw them perform after their gig at the Metal Battle 2004, I was pleasantly surprised with this opportunity to see what they have come up with the last year. Arriving at the bar it seemed the line-up was Quiet Room, Gut Cold, Intestterror and Dimaeon. The only shitty thing I had to hold on to was the Bavaria beer.
It?s necessary to comment Within Temptation was playing in another hole in this town and was sold out (wtf). This gig wasn?t.
Quiet Room had the honour to open the fest. They make grunge and because this is a metal-zine the I only want to say that it was cool for about 15 minutes, they stopped to long between the songs and after that 15 min I got too much reminded of Nirvana and the temptation of Bavaria conquered. Need I say more?
Gut Cold was second and played mostly covers from Metallica. I also heard some Black Sabbath and some songs I could place. 2 of those were own material. Playing that much well known good songs form other bands made it hard to get the same kick from their own songs. They?re a young band that definitely is in progress. Wonder what they will come up with in the future. At least they showed they had drive.
It became time for Intestterror to chop some heads. One minute before the gig I noticed Bram (guitar) was standing in the audience. He had left the band because they were aiming for a more serious position in metal-land and he couldn?t bring up the time for that now. This was Intestterrors first gig without him and this fact made me even more curious. How would they handle with only one guitar-player?
The work on new material showed off. Old and new songs were played in a tight set, the only way some brutal deathmetal American style must be performed. Stijn could handle the guitar parts pretty good on its own. If you didn?t know a second player was in once you probably never figured that. The drums and bass gave a germ base for him to lean on. Besides the songs I enjoyed the stage-act because they all were banging their heads accept for the bold guy. Everyone who thought to be better off at Within Temptation simply missed a fucking good show. I really look forward hearing this assault on their upcoming mcd. Check them out!

A pleasant surprise that night was the extra addition of Dimaeon on this fest. I got to know this band at the Metal Battle in Leeuwarden, where they won that round because their original approaches on metal. After the blasts of Intestterror the more melodic songs of Dimaeon were to please the more soften metalheads as also the brutal metal fans could get their relieves. The long tracks that last for about 10 minutes each (or longer) have most of what metal can get. So, in that case a song could easily be called a trip. Three trips were made the 16th of April 2005 (check website for setlist).
Although the most action on stage was to be seen from Ferdinand on vocals, the other members seemed to be occupied by their trip. Those 10 minute songs didn?t bore for a second. They create an atmosphere that seems to take you by the hand and make you walk along. After banging your head you find yourself dazing on some melodies. You get thrown in a pit yet after that a latter is thrown after you to climb out of it.
Well. Perhaps I could have taken the easy way and tell they?re a progressive band. Even if you don?t dig that, their brutal edge brings this term in much wider perception. Wouldn't suprise me if we would got to know this from much larger gigs in the future.
