SELF TORTURE (TUR)
DEAD CENTER Anger Epidemic Records
Written by Alex Jerjomkin on Thursday 06 September, 2007. Last updated on Thursday 06 September, 2007
Just when
you thought there are no real hardcore bands left Self Torture arrives here to kick you in the nuts. If you like
heavy music, you absolutely should love guitars. That brings us to the fact that
riffs are one of the most important aspects in this genre. While Soft Torture isn’t
here to invent the wheel, GPS and hybrid car engines they are present to
be liked by the hardcore scene. Yes, the guitars sound great. It seems
that they have found a musical harmony between hardcore and death metal. A good
example of that is “Hate, Anger, Fury” and
“Yesterday's Picture”, in case you
are a downloader. But I rather recommend buying this. The only thing that is
misplaced on this album is the rap verse during “Stilldown” which fits as good as swastika on a reggae
party. But besides that, this is a decent effort with an honest and cohesive
approach accompanied by hundreds of breakdowns that will beat you to the ground
time after time after time after time. Nothing extraordinary, just some good old hardcore.
