DIMæON (NED)
I, MORTAL
Written by Filip Dupont on Monday 07 January, 2008. Last updated on Monday 07 January, 2008
From the north of The Netherlands comes Dimæon – Who hit us with their first self released mini album, entitled "I, Mortal". After releasing a few demos two new songs got presented here. Both "The Seventh Sphere" and "Black Dawn" are lasting quite some minutes and serve a good mix of prog, jazz, rock and death metal. You could say Dimæon have something in common with Opeth, but less extreme and less detailed. The technical standards set on '"I, Mortal" are quite high, hence some Cynic alike jazzy loops and virtuous guitar sweeps. Their appearance on various prog festivals only assents the band's musical aspects. The ideas on the EP are well thought about, but unfortunately they miss that little bit extra to compete with the leading acts in the genre. It's more or less the story of Dimæon. The sound is good, yet not powerful enough. The vocals are okay, yet the cleaner parts lack a bit of definition. The artwork doesn't look bad, yet it doesn't stand out the average. When I look at "I, Mortal" as being a demo, I am very excited and positive. I'm sure Dimæon will make furore in the near future!
