Formed in the city of Nijmegen - The Netherlands, progressive metal band The Sin Committee released in the past their demo "Wormwood", and now in 2009 they've send AM their new EP titled "Confess".
When I listened the first time to this EP, it was a difficult piece of music I got on my plate, and it was hard to swallow in one time. But the more I listened to it, the more I began to appreciate the music they delivered me.
Well, as said above, progressive metal is the type of metal they are providing the listeners, and they do a fine job on "Confess". The variation between clean vocals and heavy grunts seems like a new rage in the metal industry, and sometimes this works out perfectly, but sometimes this also can break a release. But on this EP this last fact isn't the case, because when the grunts come up, well, the instruments take a great turn, and are awakening the dark side of The Sin Committee. So when the clean vocals come up, the instruments sound steady, but when the grunts appear, then it seems that all hell breaks loose (heavy guitar-riffs accompagnied with aggressive drums and a deadly grunt). After listening to the different songs you can talk about great song-structures, and you can hear that they've thought about it. Great work. Those five songs on this EP are from a good calibre, and harmonize together without any effort. In their promo-sheet they mention influences from bands as Tool, The end and Mastodon, and I can follow that statement somehow.
So fans of progressive metal definitely need to hear this EP, and maybe this is the start from a great carreer for this band. They've got the needed talent, so let's hope for those guys that they're going to be noticed by a label, and will be able to release their future creations onto mankind.
