DESTRUKTOR (AUS)
NAILED Hell`s Headbangers
Written by Yulon Zhu on Sunday 12 July, 2009. Last updated on Sunday 12 July, 2009

The four Aussies in Destruktor lay down enough intensity to set your ears on fire. Hammering down the steel, “Nailed” is a profane death-thrash strike of black weaponry, with the type of belligerence underground extreme metal bands are known for. Roaring, demonic cries, bullet-belt firing drums, dingy and fierce guitar licks with bellowing bass lines of muddled annihilation, Destruktor aren’t playing music for you to bang your head to, they’re playing music for you to smash your face in to.

“Embrace the Fire” is the quiet kindling of the flames compared to the corporeal onslaught on its way. The second track “The Epitome” is what its title implies; it is the defintion of Destruktor, bestial and vicious. It’s militant in its attack and sodden with the kind of griminess that only death metal can bring. “Forward We March” begins with a recognizable style that so many 80’s thrash bands used to get the floor jumping. Then, there are more thrasher-iffic guitars, adding higher a ratio of thrash to death with shrieking solos. Then there’s a track like “Endless Reign of Terror” that almost fully embraces a Morbid Angel-esque mood. “Nailed” in its entirety can be likened to “Altars of Madness” albeit, with a scarce amount of soloing and muddier production.

“Nailed” brings the noise of screaming imps and pitchfork wielding lackeys, wrapped up in the “metallian battalion,” of four musicians from Australia who like to produce muck-filled metal of harkening destruction, hence the fitting name of, Destruktor. This a release that is sure to fill your mind with one swift kick to the back of the eyes.
