VERMIN (NED)
DEFINE : DEVINE Deity Down Records
Written by Ronald on Monday 23 November, 2009. Last updated on Monday 23 November, 2009

From one of the most re known schools of brutal death metal, I mean Holland, we have a killer album called “Define: Divine” the authors of this excellent full length release are no others than the sick combo named Vermin that along and in conspiracy with Deity Down Records, allow us to experience a devastating release of nothing but rejoicing murderous Death Metal.

This album opens with an instrumental song  that is simply killer, first you hear a creepy clean guitar alone, very far away, but suddenly, appears a combined structure of heavy guitars-killer double blasts and fat very fat bass attack…the result, simply superb…creepy, heavy and so twisted!!!.

The whole things from that moment on, never decays, the entire album is a relentless carnival of brutal and sick riffs where harmonics very much ala early Cannibal Corpse appear. Don’t take me wrong, this is not a shameless copy of the aforementioned band, I am just trying to describe some of the techniques these dudes use…and very well used I must say.

One of the things that captured my attention from this record was its versatility in terms of tempo changes, I mean, there are parts in which everything flows pretty fast but then these Dutch folks manage to get out of there falling into a very catchy part where the voices sound like a furious pit bull coming at you…and ready to dismember you…ha ha …sorry for being so graphic but this is the image I get while listening this dude singing.

Watch out the 5th song “ I Walk Among You”…fuck, simply killer and showing the band in all its dimension passing from creepy passages, to brutal  assaults and then moving to ritualistic catchy sections where you can only stay quiet and thinking “should I go the toilet?...nah…I better resist”…ha ha.

10 tracks and over 38 minutes long of perfect sound production, exquisite composition skills and overall 38 minutes of a bitter cocktail of disease and torment. I don’t know, but if I would call myself a death metal maniac, well…I would purchase this record right fucking now, if not, I would think you’re a wimpy trend and do not deserve to enter the wisdom of Vermin, where endless suffering is what you get…nothing else.
