WAY TO END (FRA)
DESECRATED INTERNAL JOURNEY Debemur Morti Productions
Written by Jake McCloskey on Thursday 04 February, 2010. Last updated on Thursday 04 February, 2010

Further cementing France's position as the leading destination for quality innovative black metal is newcomer Way to End with their debut effort “Desecrated Internal Journey. Way to End delivers dissonant and chaotic black metal. “Desecrated Internal Journey” is an apt title; the atmosphere is nightmarishly twisted and odd, travelling to the darkest realms of the subconscious. The first comparison that came to my mind was Xasthur, although there is little similarity musically, they both share a sort of otherworldy emptiness. The vocals shift from DSBM like shrieks and low grunts (all four members partake in vocal duties), and the bass is surprisingly prominent in the mix which further enhances an underlying depressive element. The multi-faceted avant-garde approach does lead to unbalanced song writing at times, which is not really a big surprise on a debut for a band so ambitious. But there’s always room to grow and Way to End is already a worthy addition to the burgeoning French scene.
